RIFF praises Majidi’s reaction to Charlie Hebdo’s offensive cartoons

Iran’s Resistance Int'l Film Festival praises Majid Majidi for denouncing French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The organizer of Iran’s Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) has praised renowned filmmaker Majid Majidi for denouncing the French magazine Charlie Hebdo over its republication of blasphemous cartoons about Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

The Revolution and Sacred Defense Society, the RIFF’s organizer, hailed Majidi’s remarks at the 77th Venice International Film Festival in which he condemned the Charlie Hebdo’s “blatant” action, referring to his statements as a sign of impatience with such acts.

Majidi’s flick ‘Sun Children’ went on screen at the Venice International Film Festival, which was held earlier this month, and managed to grab two awards at the Italian event.

The RIFF’s organizer also said in a statement on Wednesday that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is “our honor, our dignity” and “the source of our culture, art and knowledge", stressing that the prophet is “everything to us, humans”, thus any insult to him is an insult to all human beings.

The Revolution and Sacred Defense Society concluded its statement, condemning Charlie Hebdo’s “improper, stupid and biased” action, slamming those involved in the magazine and their sponsors.

The reprint of the same defamatory cartoons, which allegedly prompted the 2015’s fatal terrorist attack on the magazine’s offices in Paris, coincided with the opening of a trial related to the attack, which was condemned by Muslims across the world.

The RIFF is one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Iran.

It is dedicated to productions on wars and the repercussions of armed conflicts in the world.

It also puts a spotlight on the resistance of the Palestinian people against the Zionist regime, Daesh and their terrorist attacks in the region, and the world’s tyrants and their backing of Daesh.
